Karl-Petter Åkesson is a senior researcher with a main focus to understand the boarder between the virtual and the real and explore the possibilities it creates.
Currently Karl-Petter is currently on a leave of absence working for Movinto Fun AB. At the Interactive Institute he works in the Game Studio. He has the technical responsibility of the The Creator pervasive game platform and at the same establishing a startup around The Creator. He previously worked in the ICE lab at SICS.
His interest is mainly in designing and constructing these novel interfaces, which is influenced and inspired by themes like ubiquitous computing, ambient media, tangible interfaces, ad hoc virtual environments, reactive environments, unencumbered interaction and mobility. Further more he is also interested in topics such as pervasive gaming, live role-playing, online gaming and creative events such as improvisation theater. Current work involves creating tools and systems to allow end-users to create an interactive environment around them self, specifically for pervasive gaming applications. Previous related work has involved areas such as intelligent houses, services for car-commuters and storytelling tools for children. He also has experience of project management on different levels, both as EU-project coordinator as well as work-package leader.
